ADHS-IQ: Analog, digital, and hybrid simulation of industrially relevant quantum phenomena

Motivation

Many companies still face significant technical and domain-specific challenges when adopting quantum computing. Its use often requires specialised expertise, substantial integration efforts, and individually developed solutions. To make quantum computing more broadly and economically viable for industrial applications, the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) is supporting the development of standardised software abstractions and modular, interoperable software components as part of the QC Next program. ADHS-IQ is part of this initiative.

Goals and Approach

The project aims to systematically enable the use of quantum computing for real-world industrial simulation problems. To this end, suitable model abstractions will be developed, analog, digital, and hybrid quantum solution methods will be tailored to these models, and their performance will be rigorously evaluated against established classical approaches.

Innovation and Perspectives

The key innovation of the project lies in connecting three levels that have so far largely been considered separately: the physics-based abstraction of industrial simulation problems, the development of tailored quantum solution methods for analog, hybrid, and digital target systems, and the software integration of these methods into a modular software stack.
