Quantum computers, which are expected to perform calculations using the laws of quantum mechanics in novel ways that are faster than classical machines, have been studied in basic research over decades. Now, first usable machines are available. The Digitisation Lab works on achieving industrial quantum advantage on gate-based quantum computers and quantum annealers.
Current efforts are aimed at closing the gap between basic research and industrial application by examining questions in their entire technical-scientific breadth. In addition, quantum machine learning, in particular reinforcement learning, and quantum computing for databases is among our core interest.
